Bird Watching (Birding) near the Aspen Inn Welcome to Sunset Magazine’s #1 Birding Destination in the West. Work on your Life List or just enjoy the feathered sights and sounds. The Upper Klamath marshes and open water bordering forests host a large variety of birds in a relatively small area. The Fort Klamath area is one of the very best locations for birding. There is a great diversity of habitats in the form of high altitude areas (Crater Lake NP, for ex.), the Upper Klamath Marsh, the Eastern Cascade Woodlands of Kimball State Park, Collier State Park, and many other access areas. This makes for a great diversity of bird species to be found within a half-hours drive of Fort Klamath. forests, grasslands, and extensive wetlands that encircle the West’s largest natural freshwater lake.
